Aida Abdi earned her B.S. and M.S. in Organic Chemistry from K.N. Toosi University of Tech. During her Master's, under Dr. Saeed Balalaie's guidance, she synthesized dithiocarbamate derivatives, including α-substituted alkenes through Regioselective Hydrothiolation of Allenoates and γ-dithiocarbamate dialkyl malonate skeletons via Hydrothiolation of Donor–Acceptor Cyclopropanes. Subsequently, as a Ph.D. student at the University of Florida under Dr. Seidel's supervision, she focused on C-H functionalization via asymmetric catalysis for one year. Aida transferred her Ph.D. to UVA in the fall of 2023, joining the Gunnoe group with a research emphasis on catalytic arene alkenylation.
